Michael A. Koban, Jr. is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Covenant Surgical Partners, Inc. Mr. Koban has over 25 years experience as a senior executive in the hospital management industry. He was a co-founder of NetCare Health Systems, an owner and operator of acute care hospitals with over $250 million in revenues, where he also served as President & CEO. Prior to that, Mr. Koban served as a member of the Board of Directors and as Senior Vice-President-Finance of HealthTrust, a NYSE company, and as Treasurer of Hospital Corporation of America.
Richard K. Jacques is President & CEO of Covenant Surgical Partners, Inc. Mr. Jacques has over 18 years in the ASC industry, including senior management positions with both public and private health care companies. He was President and Director of Surgical Health Group, LLC, a developer and manager of single and limited specialty surgery centers. Prior to that, Mr. Jacques was Vice President of Business Development for AmSurg Corp. and was responsible for the development of the system and methodology that AmSurg used to acquire or develop almost 100 ASC's during his time with them. He was also directly responsible for the identification, selection and acquisition/development of a significant number of AmSurg’s new surgical facilities.
Marnix E. Heersink, M.D. Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Heersink is an ophthalmologist practicing in Dothan, AL. He is a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the International College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a diplomat of and certified by the American Board of Eye Surgeons. He is also the founder and a member of The Southern Alabama Surgery Center, LLC, which specializes in ophthalmic surgery.
Lucius Burch, III, a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, is the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Collateral Guaranty. After working as a commercial banker for Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. in New York, Mr. Burch joined Massey Investment Company, the predecessor of Massey Burch Investment Group, as a financial analyst and portfolio manager in 1968. His years of experience in venture capital and the public market investment process include extensive experience in management consulting, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Burch has served on a number of public and private Boards of Directors, including seven New York Stock Exchange companies.
J. Frank Barefield, Jr., a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, is President of Abbey Residential, LLC, a privately owned multi-family real estate company. Mr. Barefield has 27 years of experience in the development, management and ownership of multi-family properties and was previously an audit manager with Arthur Young and Company. Mr. Barefield has received B.S. and M.B.A. degrees and is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst.
John F. Jacques, a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, is the principal of his own investment firm, Jacques Ventures, LLC. Mr. Jacques has over 30 years experience in the real estate finance and securities field. In 1970 he formed Jacques-Miller, Inc., which raised over $500 million in investor funds for real estate investments. Mr. Jacques served as Chairman and CEO of Jacques-Miller Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary broker-dealer JM Investment Company. After the business was sold in 1990, Mr. Jacques joined Insignia Financial Group, Inc., a NYSE company, where he served in several executive positions and was a member of the Board of Directors.
James E. Vann, a member of the company’s Board of Directors, is Co-Chair of the General Business Practice Group at Sirote & Permutt, P.C. in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Vann has been practicing law for over 25 years and specializes in the areas of commercial lending, real estate and corporate and tax law.
